Using the Lumix G9 with the Olympus 75-300mm lens for field hockey photography is a smart choice, given the fast-paced nature of the sport. The G9 boasts an impressive autofocus system and a rapid burst mode, which are crucial for capturing fleeting moments on the field. With a high continuous shooting speed of up to 60 frames per second, you can seize the action as it unfolds, ensuring you get those critical shots of players and the ball in motion.

To achieve the best results, focus on using a fast shutter speed—ideally around 1/1000 second or faster—to freeze the action. This is especially important during games played under various lighting conditions. If you're shooting in lower light, you may need to increase your ISO settings to maintain that shutter speed, but the G9 handles noise well at higher ISO values. Additionally, setting the camera to continuous autofocus (AF-C) will help keep moving players in sharp focus, particularly when combined with the G9's advanced tracking capabilities.

In summary, this setup is ideal for sports photography, as it offers both the reach and speed needed for dynamic shots. Practicing with your settings and becoming familiar with the camera's features will enhance your ability to capture the excitement of field hockey matches. This combination not only allows for flexibility in framing but also ensures that you won't miss out on any pivotal moments during the game

The results I get with the Olympus 40-150/2-8 Pro are significantly better. Both on a Lumix G9 and a Olympus EM1.3. The 70-300 is only an option if the other lenses are not around.
